Electronic Communication Systems by George Kennedy , Bernard Davis
Great book for beginners and as an introduction. In fact, the book does go quite a bit beyond "entry-level" in some areas, but overall this is meant to ba a solid introduction. I used this book in school in the mid-80's, and when I saw it for a good price, bought the newer edition. Well, let me tell you brothers - not a lot has changed in those years, expecially in the area of high power RF communications. All of the information on high-power RF devices (Magnetrons, Klystrons, TWTs, CFAs) has not changed. Although you will not see many people using Smith Charts, those are also covered in enough detail to be very useful. Waveguides and transmission lines are also well covered with a very clear writing style and good diagrams and example problems.
