Difference between generator and alternator?
Generator and alternator?? Both are used to produce electricity. Then what's the difference? Ok...let we move on to analyse it.
- Yes. Generator and alternator are used to produce electricity by means of mechanical energy.
- In construction wise, both are different. But they both are intended to produce electricity.
Generator:
- Generally, DC generator is simply called as generator.
- In generator, the stator consists of field winding and rotor consists of armature winding.
- Here, the main magnetic field is produced by stator field winding.
Alternator:
- Synchronous generator is likely called as alternator
- In alternator, the stator consists of Three phase armature winding and rotor consists of field winding.
- Here, the main magnetic field is produced by rotor field winding.
