Trench MOSFETs and Safe Operation in Linear Mode

With each generation of Trench MOSFET, the primary figure of merit has improved; the typical resistance of products has reduced as the cell pitch has decreased.   In this video,  Adam Brown discusses the impact of this technological progression on the operation of MOSFETs in Linear mode.  The video describes what Linear Mode is and explains why MOSFETs can potentially be thermally unstable when operated in Linear Mode. The use of Safe Operating Area graphs for MOSFETs is highlighted.  Finally a technological breakthrough is introduced which offers MOSFETs which combine both low resistance and Linear mode stability.
